Annual fact selection
Flow values require an annual duration and instant values require a balance-sheet date. The latest filing for a given annual period is preferred.
01 / DATA ENGINEERING / FINANCIAL RESEARCH
A financial research tool for comparing public-company figures while keeping each number linked to its SEC filing.
APPLICATION CAPTURE / LOCAL TESTING01 / THE PROBLEM
SEC filings contain useful financial detail, but comparing years means checking reporting periods, units, and the source of each figure.
The app selects annual observations from SEC company facts, checks filing periods and units, and links calculations to their sources. Its question tool uses defined rules and arithmetic on the loaded figures.
02 / FEATURES
Switch between pre-verified Apple and Microsoft SEC filing snapshots and optional live retrieval
Normalize 10-K annual flow versus instant balance-sheet values
Compare revenue, net income and operating cash flow across periods
Ask bounded questions answered by traceable numeric lookups
Export the currently displayed financial table as CSV
03 / IMPLEMENTATION
Flow values require an annual duration and instant values require a balance-sheet date. The latest filing for a given annual period is preferred.
The UI distinguishes verified historical filing snapshots from live SEC responses; it never labels snapshots as current stock-market data.
When live API access is unavailable, the offline filing snapshot remains inspectable without claiming to be fresh.
04 / TESTING & LIMITATIONS
Verified snapshots were manually transcribed from the 2025 Apple and Microsoft Form 10-K filings. Live extraction is implemented but requires SEC-compliant identification and hosting connectivity.
The question interface is deterministic and keyword-based; it is not an LLM or a general financial adviser. Live SEC connectivity must be confirmed on the target host. Historical snapshots should not be mistaken for the latest filings.
